Words Worth Knowing

Module-08-Section-01 Words

There’s a whole crypto language cropping up, but you don’t need to know the lingo to use crypto. Some terms are silly or invented by online communities, others more practical.

You’re bound to come across these on your crypto journey:

DeFi – Short for Decentralized Finance. Financial tools built on blockchains that let people borrow, lend, or trade without going through a central point like a bank or broker.

DYOR – Do Your Own Research. First used in chat groups to remind people to read up before investing, it’s sensible advice for all decisions.

Gas fee – A fee for some blockchains, like Ethereum, to process your transaction – named because it ‘fuels a network’.

For all the essential terms, remember to check our handy glossary if you haven’t already.
